Obituary for Charles Douglas “Doug” Bibler
Funeral Director/Embalmer at Walker Funeral home
Charles Douglas “Doug” Bibler, 77, passed away peacefully at his home on March 27, 2026.
Born on August 6, 1948, in Columbus, Ohio, he was the son of Charles and Dorothy (Davis) Bibler. Doug graduated from Whetstone High School in 1966 and continued his education at Rio Grande College, where he earned a degree in education before attending The Cincinnati College of Mortuary Science.
On August 8, 1970, he married Cynthia Amidon. Together, they built a life centered around love, family, and devotion; and shared more than five decades together filled with fun times lots of laughter, commitment, and cherished memories with their children and grandchildren.
Doug devoted his life to working hard and providing for the family he held closest to his heart. He worked in the Columbus and Canton areas at funeral homes before moving to Ashtabula County, where his wife grew up and where they raised their children. He began working at Don Childs Funeral Home and later took a position at RMI. Upon his retirement he continued his embalming and funeral directing career locally at Walker Funeral Home in Geneva, Ohio. No matter the hours or the demands of the job, Doug worked long days and weekends with pride, always putting his family first and doing whatever was necessary to care for them.
He was a loyal member of Orion Lodge #353, where he served as past master, and was also a former member of Rising Sun Lodge #22 and Scottish Rite.
Doug was a devoted and active father who played a constant role in his children’s lives as they grew up. He coached at Ashtabula Little League and youth leagues at the YMCA, and he found great joy in being involved in the lives of his children and grandchildren. He enjoyed golfing and bowling with family and friends and was an avid fan of the Cleveland professional sports teams and the OSU Buckeyes. His sense of humor and playful sarcasm will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
He was a man of integrity who stood fiercely for the people he loved. Above all else, Doug’s greatest pride was his family, and the love he had for his wife, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren was evident in everything he did.
Doug will be deeply missed by his loving wife, Cynthia; his children, Stacy (Ed) Harryman and Eric (Lindsay) Bibler; his cherished grandchildren, Macie Workman, Raegan Bibler, Grayson Bibler, and Jenna (William Brown) Beaver; and his great-grandchildren, Jackson, Olympia, and Sophia. He found great joy in his family and treasured every moment spent with them.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Cheryl Davis.
In keeping with his wishes, Doug will be laid to rest in Edgewood Cemetery, with private family services to be held. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to the Orion Masonic Lodge, P.O. Box 353, Kingsville, Ohio 44048 or to the Ashtabula Co.
