Obituary for William H. Shields

Retired Funeral Director and Former Owner of Shields Funeral Home

William H. Shields age 75 of Findlay, passed away on Friday December 2, 2022, at his residence. He was born on December 13, 1946, to Joseph W. and Frances E. (Hune) Shields. Bill married his high school sweetheart Patricia (Stephan) Shields on September 3, 1967, and they celebrated 55 years of marriage.

Surviving is his wife Pat, daughters: Anne Shields of Findlay, Tricia (Ryan) Cutright of Milton, TN, grandchildren Leah Cutright and Gavin Cutright. Bill was preceded in death by his parents and sister Patricia Jo Cook.

Bill graduated from the Riverdale High School Class of 1964. He attended Bowling Green State University and graduated from the Cincinnati College of Mortuary Science. Bill joined his father at Shields Funeral Home in 1968 and purchased the business in 1984. Bill sold the business to the Clark Family of Bringman Clark Funeral Home, Upper Sandusky in 2005. He continued to work at the funeral home with the Clark family. Bill retired in 2011 from the funeral profession after 43 years of service to his community.

Bill was a member of St. Andrew’s United Methodist Church, Findlay. While living in Forest, he was a member of the Forest United Methodist Church. He was active in the community as a member of the Forest Jaycees, Forest Lions Club, and Senate Lodge F&AM #378. He served on the Forest Jackson Library Board and the Riverdale School Board. Bill enjoyed traveling with his wife, playing golf with the Divots, and going to car shows with his 1962 Chevrolet Impala.

Visitation will be on Wednesday, December 7, 2022, from noon – 2 p.m. at St. Andrew’s United Methodist Church. The funeral service will begin at 2 p.m. at the church with Pastors Cathy Davis and Amy Miller officiating. Visitation will also be on Thursday, December 8, 2022, from 10 a.m. - 11:30 a.m. at the Clark Shields Funeral Home with burial to follow at Hueston Cemetery, Forest.
