Obituary for Gale Shinaberry

Father of Diana Greenspan, Golden Considerations

Gale Shinaberry, formerly of Niles, Ohio died Friday, January 21, 2022 due to complications caused by Alzheimer’s. Gale passed peacefully and was surrounded by loved ones.

Gale was born June 1, 1931 in Cass, West Virginia, the son of Edgar and Mary (Burns) Shinaberry. He graduated from Greenbank High School, graduating near the top of his class which was just a precursor to being selected in the top 20 employees to be hired by General Motors in Lordstown, OH. During his career with GM, he returned to school at Kent State University to study for his role in management, a job he held for 30 years, retiring in 1993.

Gale was predeceased by his wife, Carmellia “Frances” whom he married April 7, 1956, by his parents and brothers Ted, Tom, Ronnie, and Danny. Gale is survived by his brother Lewis, and sister Becky Evans.

Gale was the devoted father of Diana (Barry) Greenspan, Dennis (Lynda) Shinaberry and Mary (Mark) Nicastro. Devoted grandfather to Jaclyn (Jon) Kleber, Nick (Emma) Donadio, Amanda (Michael) Ahern, Taylor Greenspan (Jeff Scott) and Brittany Nicastro. Great grandfather to Brooklyn and Jeffery, who in recent years were his favorite visitors. We will always be grateful for the lessons of faith, compassion, love, and the value of a hard day’s work that he taught his family.

He was a gentleman in the truest sense of the word, a man of honor and principle who could be trusted to do the right thing; not for any glory or accolades but because it was the right thing to do. Gale’s greatest joys were being with his family, especially for any of his grandchildren’s sporting events.

We would like to thank all the caregivers at Brookdale Bath Nursing Home who provided passionate and heartfelt support during his extended illness. He was a favorite to all.

“Your life was a blessing, your memory a treasure. You are loved beyond words and missed beyond measure. Rest in Peace sweet angel until we meet again.”
