Obituary for T. Paul Evans, M.D.

Father of Colin Evans, OFDA Assistant Executive Director

Thomas "Paul" Evans, M.D., passed away peacefully August 7, 2021 following a stroke. Preceded in death by parents, Evan Isaac and Bessie Evans; sisters, Alice Evans and Esther Kelly, and brother, George Evans. Survived by his beloved wife of 57 years, Irveline; sons, Dan (Kelley), of Centennial, CO, Dylan (Leanne), of Powell, OH, and Colin (Colleen), of Upper Arlington, OH, and grandchildren, Conor, Shane, Lindsey, Avery, Bailey, Emerson, Nathan and Ryan. Born on June 5, 1934, Paul grew up in Clintonville, OH and was a graduate of North High School. He later graduated from The Ohio State University and Vrije University Medical School of Amsterdam. He and Irveline met in Amsterdam, The Netherlands, at a restaurant where they liked to say it was "love at first bite." He practiced emergency, occupational and addiction medicine at various hospitals. After serving his residency at Riverside Hospital, he joined the staff and was an ER physician there for 18 years and was regarded as a "legend" when family would mention his name to hospital staff. After Riverside, he continued seeing patients for many years into "retirement" at Mercy, Grady, St. Anthony, Adena, and Berger Hospitals. He enjoyed many things including traveling, ballet, Broadway musicals, his Welsh heritage, almost daily workouts at the YMCA, singing at the piano bar at The Top Steak House, and building Soap Box Derby cars with his sons and then grandchildren. Paul, Dad, Grandpappy will forever be in our hearts. Family will receive friends 2-5 pm on Saturday, August 14 at SCHOEDINGER NORTHWEST, 1740 Zollinger Road. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to American Red Cross, 995 East Broad St, Columbus, OH 43205, in his memory. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.Schoedinger.com.
