Obituary for James "Jim" Hayes

OFDA was recently informed of Mr. Jim Hayes' passing on January 20, 2016. Jim previously owned and operated the James V. Hayes Funeral Home in Ironton, OH . 

Jim "The Gentleman" Hayes passed away on Wednesday, January 20, 2016 with his family by his side.
James Vincent Hayes, 74, of North Fort Myers, Florida passed away on January 20, 2016. He was born on September 4, 1941 in Portsmouth, Ohio to Harold Ted Hayes and Clara Anlee (nee Smith) Hayes. Jim was a 1959 graduate of Ironton High School, Ironton, Ohio. Some of his childhood friends included Ricky Wileman, Larry Midkiff and Don Willis. On September 1, 1962 he married Claire Jean Goldcamp at First Christian Church in Russell, Kentucky. Mr. Hayes was the owner and Funeral Director of James V. Hayes Funeral Home in Ironton. During his long career in Ironton he received the Humanitarian Award from the City of Ironton. He then continued his career as an Accounting Consultant with Federated Funeral Director of America. Jim was a member of Central Christian Church in Ironton for over 60 years, also serving as a Deacon. After moving to Florida, Mr. Hayes worked as a Senior Funeral Director with Coral Ridge Funeral Home and Cemetery, Cape Coral. His favorite vacation spots included, Myrtle Beach, Buckeye Lake, Hawaii and Orlando. He enjoyed golfing, playing cards with friends, and bowling. He also enjoyed watching football, especially his beloved Ohio State University. Mr. Hayes was a Shriner and Mason, member of; Lions Club, Rotary Club, Ohio Funeral Directors Association, Life Member of the Elks Lodge.
Jim is survived by his loving family including his wife of more than 53 years, Claire "Jeanie" Hayes; son, Kevin (Sabrina) Hayes; daughters, Kelli (Mike) Kinney, Kim (Bill) Hornbuckle, and Kathy Hayes; mother, Annie Hayes; sister, Linda (Ted) Dolby; grandchildren, Zach, Ryan, Arleigh, Aaron, Lori, Ty, Kati, Austin; three great granddaughters.
