JOB DESCRIPTION: Full-Time Care Center Manager – Licensed Embalmer

Classification: Exempt

Reports to: Director of Funeral Operations

 

Summary/Objective 

Our Care Center manager is responsible for the daily oversight of our central preparation facility. They plan workflow, direct priorities, and oversee the quality of embalming, decedent preparation, and transportation. Directly lead, supervise, train, and develop Embalmers, Care Center Attendants, and Transfer Team staff.  Our managers are essential for developing professional and effective staff and exceeding client-family expectations.

INDUSTRY AND COMPANY AWARENESS          

Knowledgeable of prevailing laws, local customs, operating procedures for customary equipment, and appropriateness of religious customs.  Complete understanding of Federal Trade Commission Funeral Rule.        

SAFETY

Responsibly conduct duties with regard to the safety of client families and to the employee and staff.  Knowledgeable with O.S.H.A. funeral home requirements, local fire codes, board of embalmers rules, and statutes pertaining to safety.

SENSITIVITY

Be aware of the client's family situation and cater to their emotional needs.  Above all, provide an atmosphere of respect for privacy and reverence for the dead. 

COMMUNICATION

Good written and spoken communication skills are required.  Quality notes and communication to staff, outside vendors, and third-party employees.

Work Environment

This position operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, printers, fax machines, and cleaning supplies.

Physical Demands

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly required to talk and/or hear. The employee frequently is required to sit; stand; walk; squat; and reach with hands and arms. Required to lift up to 50 pounds.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work
This is a full-time exempt position. Business days and hours of work are:

Monday through Sunday, Flexible Scheduling

Travel
Local travel may be required for support.

Required Education, Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Experience

  1. Five plus (5+) years of experience in a related field
  2. Two plus (2+) years of management or leadership experience, funeral profession preferred
  3. Professional interpersonal skills as well as cultural sensitivity and tactfulness to interact with a variety of cultures and language barriers
  4. Must possess or be able to reciprocate an Ohio Funeral Director’s License and Ohio Embalmer’s License
  5. Excellent customer service skills and ability to resolve issues and empower others.
  6. Professional written and oral communication and effective leadership skills
  7. Displays a “Customer First” Attitude.
