Funeral Director and President of Shriver-Allison-Courtley-Weller-King Funeral Home

POLAND - A Celebration of Life is scheduled at the Shriver-Allison-Courtley-Weller-King Funeral Home in Youngstown on Sunday, June 10, 2018, at 4 p.m. for David R. Courtley, 78, who died Feb. 10, 2018, at St Elizabeth Health Center.

David was born March 27, 1939, in Pittsburgh, a son of the late Clarence and Virginia Dietrich Courtley.

David was a 1957 graduate of Wilkinsburg High School and a 1961 graduate of the University of Miami. He was past president and a loyal member of the Sigma Nu fraternity, where he met friends of a lifetime. He married his college sweetheart, Nancy McGurk, in 1961 and together they moved to Youngstown, where he entered into the family business with his father.

David faithfully served the community as a funeral director and president of the Shriver-Allison-Courtley-Weller-King Funeral Home. He became a funeral director in 1963, a position he held for 55 years. He was a member of the National Funeral Directors Association, the Ohio Funeral Directors Association, and the Tri-County Funeral Directors Association, as well as the Ohio Embalmers Association.

David was also a member of the Poland Presbyterian Church. He was a past member of the National Selected Morticians (NSM), a past president of Gyros Club of Youngstown and a former board member of Park Vista of Youngstown, as well as a past member of Youngstown Country Club, Youngstown Kiwanis and The Northside Coalition.

David is survived by his wife, Nancy; three daughters, Kimberly Romanchuk, Elissa (John) Batcheller, and Laura (Sean) Todd; two brothers, Douglas (Sandy) Courtley and Christopher (Dee) Courtley; five grandchildren, Jayme and Shelby Romanchuk, John and Anne Batcheller, and Sidney Todd; and one great-grandson, Kaiden.

Dave enjoyed life to the fullest on his own terms. He loved the outdoors, adventures with his brothers, and family vacations. He was an avid Pittsburgh Steelers, Pirates and Penguins fan. Being a natural mentor, he leaves behind many beloved “adopted sons” from the Poland community.

David’s legacy will live on in the countless lives that he was able to touch over many years.

Following the Celebration of Life service, a reception will be held at the funeral home for family and friends.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to his good friend’s foundation, The Richard Weaver Memorial Scholarship Fund. C/O Poland Presbyterian Church, 5 Poland Manor, Poland, OH 44514.
