Obituary for Robert Jay Jenkins

Father of Steve Jenkins, Funeral Director at Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Director of Sales Development at Funeral Directors Life

Robert Jay Jenkins, 91, of Dover, died unexpectedly of natural causes on Sunday, December 18, 2016 at his home.

A son of the late David A. and Sarah N. (Guess) Jenkins, Bob was born March 31, 1925 at Bergholz, Ohio.

Bob graduated from Lincoln High School at Canton, Ohio in 1943. Following graduation, he enlisted with the United States Army serving during World War II. He then received an honorable discharge on March 3, 1946. Upon his separation from the military, Bob continued his education at Ohio Northern University and graduated with a Bachelor’s of Engineering degree.

On November 11, 1947, Bob married the former Mary Lou Buchanan and they raised two sons, Scott and Steve. The couple shared 30 years of marriage prior to Mary Lou’s passing on June 15, 1978.

Bob was a longtime employee of W.E. Quicksall & Associates where he served as Principle Associate. He ultimately retired as the Ohio Department of Transportation District Deputy Director of District #11.

He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church at New Philadelphia. He was also a longtime member of Union Country Club and the New Philadelphia Elks B.P.O.E #510 where he enjoyed playing cards and having lunch daily. Bob was an avid reader and enjoyed fishing and golfing. He also enjoyed spending time at the family cottage in Northern Ontario.

He is survived by his sons, Scott (Karen) Jenkins and Steve (Brenda) Jenkins both of New Philadelphia; his grandchildren, Stephanie (Harry Hopson) Jenkins of New Philadelphia, and Aaron Jenkins, Kate Jenkins, and Matt Jenkins all of Columbus; a great granddaughter, Frankie Fry and his companion, Barbara Campbell.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, December 21, 2016 from 4 to 7 p.m. in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia. A funeral service celebrating Bob’s life will be held on Thursday, December 22, 2016 at 10:30 a.m. in the funeral home with Pastor Brian Flood officiating. Interment will follow at 12:30 p.m. on Thursday in Harlem Springs Cemetery.
