Charles D. Scott

OFDA received word this morning that Charles D. Scott 79, of Cambridge, passed away Saturday, February 16. He was born January 24, 1929, in Cambridge, to the late Carl Austin and Pearl W. (Watkins) Scott. Mr. Scott was a funeral director and was the former owner and operator of the Scott Funeral Home.

He graduated from Cambridge High School in 1946, Muskingum College in 1950 and Cleveland College of Mortuary Science in 1951. He served in the U.S. Army from 1953 to 1955, and came home after the death of his father, Carl A. Scott, in 1955 to take over ownership of the Scott Funeral Home.

He was a member of the Unity Presbyterian Church, Eagles Lodge 386, Elks Lodge 448, VFW Post 2901, American Legion, Guernsey 632 Masonic Lodge, Scottish Rite, Alladin Shrine, past president of the United Fund of Guernsey County, board chairman of Bank of Ohio Central National Bank, Board of the Old Citizens Savings Bank, YMCA board member, a member of National Selected Morticians, Cambridge Country Club, Cambridge Tennis Team, 50-year member of the Ohio Funeral Directors Association, past president of the Rotary Club and managed the Scott Funeral Home Little League team. Mr. Scott was a pilot and loved to fly and also was an avid golfer and had two holes-in-one.

Charles is survived by his wife, Martha K. (Cunningham) Scott, whom he married on May 29, 1954; two daughters, Cindy E. Rosatone and Kimberly Sue (Kris) Gibson; a son, Carl Austin (Dorothy) Scott; a brother, Attorney James R. (Barbara) Scott; five grandchildren, Dustin Scott Harper, Krystal K. Gibson, Kendal Sue Gibson, Ashley Meredith Scott, Jarrett Mobelini Scott; three great-grandchildren, Jaydan Lynn Gibson, Kristopher David Gibson and Austin Scott; sister-in-law, Shirley L. Moore; four nieces, Linda Lou (Bob) Jennings, Lana (Jim) Miser, Judy (Edward) Alexander, Beth Ann (Mike) Gilpin; nephew, Frank (Arnetta) Moore Jr.; and he loved his two dogs, Duke and Scoobie Doo; and many friends at the Villages in Lady Lake, Fla., where they resided for seven years.

Calling hours will be from 2:00 8:00 PM Tuesday, February 19 at Unity Presbyterian Church with Eagles services at 6:00 PM. Services will be 1:00 PM Wednesday at the church with the Rev. Fr. Robert Borer officiating. Burial will be in Northwood Cemetery. Graveside military services will be conducted by the Guernsey County Veterans Council.
