Notification of Death - Thomas J. Jamieson

August 22, 2007

OFDA received word this afternoon that Thomas J. Jamieson, Jr., 76, of Piqua, died Wednesday, August 22, 2007 in Piqua Manor Nursing Home. He was born March 24, 1931 in Piqua to the late Thomas J. and Erma L. (Lemke) Jamieson, Sr. He married Charlyne L. McVety June 28, 1953; and she survives.

Other survivors include four daughters, Susan K. (Michael P.) Yannucci, Julia A. (Patrick) Murray, Deborah E. Jamieson, Mary B. (Scott) Farmer; ten grandchildren, Emily Yannucci, Michael Yannucci, Nicholas Yannucci, Maria Yannucci, David Murray, Allison Murray, Jane Murray, Kailey Farmer, Sari Farmer, Zachary Farmer; and a sister, Janet (Ron) Weldy.

Mr. Jamieson graduated Piqua Central High School in 1949, Ohio Wesleyan University in 1953 with a degree in Business, and honorably served our Country in the United States Air Force as a First Lieutenant from 1953-1956 as a Finance Officer. Upon his return he chose to follow in his family profession and graduated Cincinnati College of Mortuary Science in 1957. He worked along side his parents in the Jamieson Funeral Home they founded in 1941 until their deaths in the early 1970's. He and his wife, Charlyne continued serving the community adding a third generation to the funeral home in 1980. He ultimately semi-retired in the 1990's from the Jamieson & Yannucci Funeral Home following a career in funeral service that dated back to his teenage years. Professionally he was currently a licensed Funeral Director and Embalmer noted for his fifty-years of service. He was a member of the Montgomery County Funeral Directors Association, Ohio Embalmer's Association, National Funeral Directors Association, and Ohio Funeral Directors Association.

He enjoyed volunteer work, his family, golf and friends. Mr. Jamieson was recognized with several community awards including, Jaycee Boss of the Year in 1979, Lions Club-Melvin Jones Fellow Award in 1996, Salvation Army-William Booth Award in 1994, and the prestigious Order of George Award in 1988.

A funeral service will be conducted at 1:30 pm Sunday, August 26, 2007 in the Jamieson & Yannucci Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Forest Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3:00-9:00 pm Saturday in the funeral home where a Masonic service will be conducted at 2:45 pm.
