He was born February 9, 1930, in Morrow County the son of the late Elbert Smith and the late Ida Earl Smith. On August 29, 1952 he married Ethel Grenfell who preceded him in death October 30, 2013.

Also surviving are a son Richard Smith, Venice, FL, son and daughter in law Bob and Sue Smith, Chillicothe, grandchildren Janet Lynn Smith, James Travis (Emily) Smith, Melissa (Chad Roll) Greenwood, Cain Smith and Kevin Smith, great grandchildren Isabella Petry, Jacob Petry, Jordan Demarco, Kennedy Smith, Atlantis Smith, Clayton Smith, and Landen Smith, one sister Rachel Gilbert, Chula Vista, CA, and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Harvey was retired from HPM and his private business of refrigeration and appliance repair. He was the Boy Scoutmaster for Troop 56 for many years, and was very proud of many members of the Troop. He was very active in the AMVETS organization where he served many years as finance officer for the local Post 87 and the District and State AMVETS. He was active in many other organizations such as the Morrow County Antique Tractor Club and the Morrow County Beekeepers Association. One of his proudest memberships was with the Morrow County Joint Veterans Council, where he was treasurer, assisted with the placement of bricks, and helped with maintaining the Memorial. Harvey had a knack for fixing things, being helpful, and continuing an argument just for the sake of arguing. He will be missed by many folks of Morrow County.
