Notification of Death - Richard A. " Dick" Snyder

OFDA received word this afternoon that Richard A. "Dick" Snyder, age 87, of Mount Vernon, formerly of Fredericktown, died Monday evening May 14, 2007 at the Riverside Methodist Hospital in Columbus.

Following graduation he married his high school sweetheart, Helen A. (Wirick) Snyder on October 4, 1940. Dick served with Battery B, 226th Antiaircraft Battalion in the European Theater of War during World War II. Following his discharge from the Army in 1945 he returned to Richland County, graduated from the Cleveland College of Embalming and joined his father in the family funeral business. He and his wife managed the Snyder Funeral Home in Butler from 1945 to 1953 when they moved to Fredericktown where they managed the funeral home and he served as the president of Snyder Funeral Homes, Inc from 1962 until his retirement in 1982.

Surviving are his wife of 66 years Helen A. (Wirick) Snyder, their three sons and daughters-in-law Dan and Susan Snyder, Dennis and Diana Snyder and Joe and Beth Snyder; his grandchildren Melissa Snyder, Jon J. Snyder, Lisa McAlexander, Weston T. (Stacy) Snyder, Andrew Snyder and Christine Snyder; his great grandchildren Emily Snyder, Braxton Snyder, Jaxon Snyder and Maddox Snyder; his sisters and brothers-in-law Betty and Bill Ritchie, Pat and Larry Hoffman and Janet and Jim Hope; his brothers and sisters-in-law Bob and Dorothy Snyder, Thomas Arthur and Joyce Snyder, J. Paul and Shontell Snyder, Jim and Pat Snyder, Virginia Snyder, Jean Snyder, Gifta Snyder and Madelyn Snyder. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by his brothers Donald Snyder, David Snyder, Ora O. "Pete" Snyder Jr., Philip Snyder, and H. Arden Snyder.

Friends may call at the Snyder Funeral Home in Fredericktown on Thursday, May 17 from 1 PM - 3 PM and 6 PM - 8 PM. Funeral services will be held 11 AM Friday, May 18 at the Fredericktown United Methodist Church. Burial will follow at Forest Cemetery in Fredericktown.
