Obituary for Francis L. Plumly

Retired Funeral Director and Former Owner of Campbell-Plumly-Milburn Funeral Home

Francis L. Plumly, 96, of Barnesville passed away on Monday, October 14, 2019 at Wheeling Hospital. Francis was born on September 27, 1923 in Barnesville to the late Harold C. and Freda V. (Frazier) Plumly.

Francis is a veteran of the United States Army who served in WWII with the 106th Infantry Division, 422 Regiment, 2nd Battalion, Company F. He was captured in the Battle of the Bulge and was a German Prisoner of War. Francis was a life- member of the American Ex-POW, life-member of the Disabled American Veterans, and life-member of the VFW 2792.

Francis was a member of the First United Methodist Church. He was a graduate of Barnesville High School and a graduate of Cleveland College of Mortuary Science. He started working for Campbell Funeral Home in 1948.  He became a partner in 1968 and became sole owner in 1978 until his retirement in 1988.

In addition to his parents, Francis was preceded in death by his wife, Nancy (Campbell) Plumly on July 1, 2010; and brother, Robert Plumly.

Francis is survived by his two daughters: Nan P. (Richard) Cairney of Pataskala, Ohio and Julie (Joseph A.) Gaudio of St. Clairsville, Ohio; three grandsons: Ryan Cairney (Molly Olmstead-Uline) of Pataskala, Matt (Heather) Cairney of Granville, and Derek Gaudio (Brianna Dodd) of Akron; four great-grandchildren: Alexis, Emily, Elizabeth and Jonathan Cairney; and brother, H. Max (Marjorie) Plumly of Barnesville.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, October 17, 2019 from 4-8pm at Campbell-Plumly-Milburn Funeral Home, 319 N. Chestnut St., Barnesville, Ohio. The service will be held on Friday, October 18, 2019 at 11am with Pastor Van Fisher officiating. Burial will follow in Crestview Cemetery with Military Honors conducted by Guernsey County Veterans Council.
